| 1/4 Cup | Butter |
| 1/4 Cup | Light Brown Sugar |
| 2 1/2 Cups | Sliced Apples |
| 1/4 Tsp. | Ground Mace |
| 2 Tsp. | Lemon Juice |
| 1/3 Cup | Shortening |
| 2/3 Cup | Sugar |
| 1 Tsp. | Vanilla |
| 1 | Egg, well beaten |
| 1 1/2 Cups | Sifted Flour |
| 2 Tsp. | Salt |
| 2/3 Cup | Milk |

Melt Butter in 8x8 inch pan; sprinkle with brown sugar. |

Drain apples; arrange overlapping wedges on sugar. |

Aprinkle with mace and lemon juice. |

Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla together. |

Add egg and beat vigorously. |

Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk. |

Pour batter over fruit. |

Bake at 325F about 1 hour; cool 5 minutes, then turn upside-down on serving plate. |
