Ingredients:
1/4 Cup
 Butter
1/4 Cup
 Light Brown Sugar
2 1/2 Cups
 Sliced Apples
1/4 Tsp.
 Ground Mace
2 Tsp.
 Lemon Juice
1/3 Cup
 Shortening
2/3 Cup
 Sugar
1 Tsp.
 Vanilla
1
 Egg, well beaten
1 1/2 Cups
 Sifted Flour
2 Tsp.
 Salt
2/3 Cup
 Milk
Recipe Directions:
1.  Melt Butter in 8x8 inch pan; sprinkle with brown sugar.
2.  Drain apples; arrange overlapping wedges on sugar.
3.  Aprinkle with mace and lemon juice.
4.  Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla together.
5.  Add egg and beat vigorously.
6.  Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk.
7.  Pour batter over fruit.
8.  Bake at 325F about 1 hour; cool 5 minutes, then turn upside-down on serving plate.
